Oly Trinity’s Collection of Essays – Chapter #2
The Road Samaritans in the City of Toronto, the Good.
How many times have the City of Toronto, the Good been called by that name? Countless of times, not only the Good but also the Road Samaritans. How many times have I been stranded on the road waiting for my Auto Club’s tow truck to arrive? So many, many times but every time I get stranded due to car problems or otherwise, there’s always a good Samaritan on the road somewhere ready to help a ‘damsel in distress’.
My car’s battery went dead at the highway interchange on my way home from work at the airport offices of the International Hotel, I have to push my car on the shoulder while my car was on neutral and still moving a bit. I parked it on the sideroad and called the CAA Auto Club for which I am a Member and I gave them my exact location at the eastbound highway interchange, my car make/model/color/License Plate/etc. They were sending a tow truck to give my battery a boost so I stayed inside the car and waited awhile.
The busy Highway 401 West in Toronto, Canada
Minutes have passed and I was still waiting, then a Taxi pulled over in front of my stalled car and went to my side door window. He knocked and offered to help, if I need a car battery boost, he will charge and boost my car battery for $20 dollars. I told him thank you, since a tow truck was already on his way to boost my car battery and he left, nice try but quite an expensive help. Then another car came to my rescue and offered to help and boost my car battery and he presented himself as a car mechanic ready to help me for free. I appreciated his kind offer but I had to refuse since I already called CAA who is sending a tow truck to help me. He was still worried about me though I was a stranger to him, since it was getting dark at 6:00 p.m. at night but he left reluctantly though he offered to stay a while to keep me company. I thanked and assured him that I will be okay and got my cellphone with me anyway should something else happen. Then I even reminded myself to get a brand new car battery the next day to avoid any more car troubles in a busy highway rush hour traffic going home.
After half an hour of waiting, the tow truck finally arrived, gave my car battery a boost and told me to keep it running for a few minutes and then go back to the highway and drive home. I did and later on I got home safely. What an end to a very tiring day with my car battery dying on me in the hwy after a hard day’s work at the office and had to wait half an hour for the CAA tow truck to help me. I was just glad it was already the end of the cold winter and spring have just started with mild evening breeze blowing in the highway.
