One Fateful Day on the Summer of 2013!
This fateful day on the Summer of 2013 is one that I will never forget. Why? On this very day I ran into an unfortunate incident. And thought that I wouldn’t survive that worst food poisoning.
Early morning breakfast consisted of black coffee since we ran out of creamer and a raisin wheat bagel which I usually eat with cream cheese but didn’t this time around. After eating that bagel which tasted stale and the raisins looked so dark, then the stomach cramps and nausea started. When I first saw that bagel from the bag, my inner voice told me that it looked so weird with raisins so dark, usually raisins are just brownish not blackish in color and tells me not to eat that bagel. But I was hungry so I ate it anyway. Then after eating it, I had severe cramps and pain in my tummy and went to the washroom to vomit whatever I had eaten. Most of the black coffee was regurgitated and some wheat parts digested with the whole undigested rotten raisins, too. I knew then that I shouldn’t have eaten that bagel as my gut feeling insisted. Sometimes I do listen to my inner voice but this time I tried to ignore it and ate the bagel that was probably contaminated with toxins by the rotten raisins. I didn’t only had stomach cramps but diarrhea as well.
I almost called 911 for an ambulance to go to the nearest hospital ER for this food poisoning incident but after vomiting most of what I have eaten, my tummy settled down so I opted out on that 911 phone call. Minutes later I had to throw up again and more rotten raisins came out. Then the next time I did, it was just greenish looking water that came out since I tried to drink more water to resist getting dehydrated by regurgitating so much. I was losing my balance and almost passed out after getting so dizzy but I braced myself and held on to the sides of the door so I did not faint or fall. Although my head was spinning so badly I tried to maintain my equilibrium. It wasn’t easy but I was able to balance myself and held on for a while in spite of the ongoing dizziness. Then I rested in my bedroom with a small plastic bag just in case I started throwing up again and can not run fast enough to the nearby washroom sink. I must have dozed off because when I woke up a couple of hours later, I felt so bad again. Back to the washroom sink and started throwing up, more greenish looking fluid since I drank so much water again. Then after that I went back to my room and took a nap that lasted a few hours.
When I woke up I was starved so I went to the kitchen and ate some plain wheat bread just to fill my empty tummy. No more coffee or bagel or anything else except that plain wheat bread and plenty of water to drink. I saw a bottle of chewy Pepto Bismal tablets in our medicine cabinet so I took two and chewed them. That helped a bit to settle my tummy and back to my room to rest and ended up taking another nap. When I woke up, I was good as new again since the tummy ache is gone and my dizziness subsided. I went to get the rest of those stale raisin wheat bagels and put them in the garbage bin before anyone else in the family gets sick from eating them. It was such a horrible day for me and food poisoning is no laughing matter so be careful of what you eat and taste it first before deciding to eat the whole thing. If it doesn’t taste right then get rid of it before anything happens like food poisoning or otherwise.
A Twist of Fate!
How many times have I been saved from disaster by listening to my inner voice or gut feeling? A few times. Years ago, one wintry morning on my way to work instead of driving directly to the office, I felt like having some kind of breakfast even in such a hurry. My inner voice was trying to tell me not to go directly to the highway. While getting my breakfast at a fast food chain on the drive-thru window, the car radio was blaring to inform listeners that a huge accident just happened at the highway minutes ago and a tractor trailer jackknifed on that icy and slippery highway road after the early morning freezing rain warning causing a chain reaction and hundreds of vehicles collided and turned into a huge disaster area. I had to take an alternate route from my usual way to the office so I was so late for work, but when I got there no one was even in the office so I figured they must have all been delayed by the highway accident which took hours to clear after so many vehicles were involved in it including most of my office mates. I was lucky that I listened to my inner voice, had I gone directly to that highway as I always do every morning going to work, who knows what might have happened. And I don’t even want to think about that possibility.
So when I get some kind of intuition and when my inner voice tells me something to do or not to do, now I usually listen to it and heed the warning. Twist of fate can save lives, did you ever hear your inner voice and listened to it? Once I have and now I didn’t. Then I always will every time from now on. I should have listened to my inner voice or gut feeling then I could have avoided that nasty food poisoning that happened today. Guess I was in for a rude awakening and a lesson learned today that will last me a lifetime. I am okay now that I have fully recovered and good as new again.
