Winter Escape to Las Vegas
09 January 2014 – Preparations for the Grand Vacation Trip to Honolulu
We have decided to go to the Hawaiian Island of Oahu or Maui and visit the beaches of the Hawaiian Islands. We were in Honolulu years ago and it was fun. What a grand holiday vacation we had as a whole family. This time it’s only us, the sisters ready to escape the winter blahs.
10 January 2014 – At Pearson International Airport in Toronto
It’s still the winter season, as usual freezing temperatures and very snowy this winter of 2014, unlike our other winters before this which was so mild and autumn-like weather, cool but not much snow. We took the Airport Limousine to the airport since there was no point in driving and leaving the car in the airport parking lot and by the time we get back from our vacation it will be covered by snow anyway. We only have carry-on to get past through customs and security easily after we checked our flights and get our ordered tickets (pick-up at airport counter) for US destination of HI. We did check the availability of our flights and it was go, no delays or cancellations yet. It turned out that they haven’t updated the flights for today so when we got to the airport terminal and checked our flights at the digital info boards, our connecting flights to Chicago or San Francisco or LAX were all cancelled so it’s now NO GO!
Of course, we were all disappointed and quite upset so we will re-book our flights to HI for a later date since there’s no re-booking charge for those cancelled ones with connecting flights. We were going to just leave the airport and go home but the Ticket Agent at the counter told us that there’s a flight going to US that’s leaving in the next hour if we want to book on that different flight.
We were curious so we asked, “Going where?” And she replied, “Las Vegas”! We were all having a giggly round of laughter going on and the ticket agent was surprised why it was so funny. We told her that maybe we have to change plans and go there to enjoy the casinos in Las Vegas since we like going to casinos here in town. She asked if she can book us on that flight. We all nodded and said to her, why not! So 4 seats were booked and we were checked in and given boarding passes at the gate after going through the security area.
10, 11, and 12 January 2014
Las Vegas here we come! And Hawaii will have to wait a while longer. No Grand Vacation to Honolulu this time around. We stayed at the Luxor Hotel in Las Vegas with 30 % off on the rooms and got $20 food vouchers. Then after days of watching gambling casino players and sometimes playing a little bit, we got tired and went to see the sights around the city.
We visited the other hotels like Parisian and Italian motifs hotels aside from the Egyptian motif hotel that we stayed. Dinner was not so expensive in this city that is alive 24 hours a day. It seems like no one sleeps here in Las Vegas.
Lots of entertainment around town, not so cheap though. It cost us $75 each person for two shows. One musical and the other a Medieval show called the Tournament of Kings where we can eat, drink and have fun watching the knights perform for the audience. There were other shows like Magicians and other comedy shows which we did not have time to go and see. By the time the evening ended we were so tired so we went back to our hotel room and went to sleep and rested the whole night.
There were lots of happenings in Las Vegas. The International CES14 is a global consumer electronics and consumer technology trade show that takes place every January in Las Vegas, Nevada. When we arrived there the NMX Business Show/Event which is the premier conference for business, marketing, PR and IT executives have just ended.
13 January 2014
Next day we all packed our things and were shuttled by the hotel bus to the Las Vegas Airport to leave and catch our flight to Toronto. We were taking our time because nobody wants to leave yet but our short vacation was up and time to go home.
Back to the frigid weather in Toronto and after that 4D 3N holiday vacation in Las Vegas, we are ready to face old-man winter again. Back to the winter coats and bundle up again to face winter 2014 straight ahead for the next two months, but hoping that we will have an early spring. And keeping my fingers crossed for now.
